“It’s hard to believe 75 years have vanished from the time Bill Ruger and Alex Sturm set up shop in a little red barn. It almost seems as if some sort of angel of mercy looked over Bill Ruger’s shoulder over the years,” reflects FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington. “But in actuality, it’s a classic case of hard work, solid engineering and design skills and brilliant marketing that paved the road to make Ruger the success it’s become. Luck, while fortunate at times, played only a minor role in this adventure.”
Huntington leads readers on a stroll down memory lane, highlighting some of the company’s iconic designs from the past 75 years in the July issue of GUNS.
Alan Garbers candidly acknowledges the effect aging — coupled with partial disability — has had on hunting. In “Making Disabilities A Little Less Disabling,” he shares how the Henry Long Ranger proved a reliable, capable and manageable lever-action option in the field.
Topping the July GUNS Firearms Package Giveaway is North American Arms .22 Magnum Mini-Revolver (NAA-22M). At a mere 5.14" long, the single action has a 1.63"-barrel, half-moon sights and Rosewood bird’s head grips. The winner will also receive a Ritual Compact knife from CRKT and a TK22R tactical flashlight from Fenix. Valued at more than $502, readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing by visiting GunsMagazine.com/giveaways.
Elsewhere in the July issue, Massad Ayoob contends the scars a gun earns tell stories, even if their history is only relevant to the owner. “What may be flaws to some is character to others,” he notes in the Handguns column. In the Make Ready installment, Dave Bahde maintains if you are teaching members of your family to shoot, approach it with insight and a plan. And for those who feel crafty and need some inspiration, Frank Jardim provides a detailed summary of a military stock restoration in “Turn An Ugly Duckling Into A Swan.”
