S3DA Names David “Dave” Snyder as Texas State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named David “Dave” Snyder as the new Texas S3DA State Coordinator. David will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in Texas, including promoting the program across the state to gain team and individual memberships, providing trainings for new coaches, and dividing the state into regions that will allow S3DA participants multiple monthly competition venues (tournaments) with minimal travel. David is looking to recruit and hire Regional Coordinators to oversee and manage these individual regions. David is an outdoor enthusiast that has been involved with archery since the age of eight, so he is very excited to work with youth and get them involved in archery.

Dave’s father got him started in archery at a very young age. He fondly remembers his dad and several other dads taking him and other boys camping and hunting in the mountains of Williams, Arizona (outside of Flagstaff) in the late 70’s. Dave said it was the highlight of their weekends for him and his friends to sit on the back of the tailgate cruising the dirt roads while their dad’s drove them around. Dave is a traditional archer that enjoys recreational archery, competitive archery, bowhunting, and especially bowfishing with both of his sons. Dave has been married to his wife, Heather, for over twenty-five years, and she remains his biggest supporter. Together, they have raised three children, Bryce, Reese, and Brooke. While the children are grown and no longer at home, they all live within a couple of hours of each other and spend a lot of family time together.

Dave is currently the Director of Operations for an underground utility company in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is an active firearms instructor that is licensed in both Nevada and Texas. He recently became a USA Archery Level III Instructor and is the owner of Oak Ridge Archery, an outdoor archery range located in Lago Vista, Texas (slated to open this Spring). Dave has coached youth sports for numerous years with his own children so becoming involved with the S3DA program seemed only natural, especially to promote and introduce archery to as many youths as possible. Dave sees this position as the best way to repay the sport that has and continues to mean the most to him.

Dave learned about the S3DA program at The Vegas Shoot. He attends religiously, not as a competitior, but as an archery fanatic. When the family lived in Las Vegas, Dave would take his boys and their friends to The Vegas Shoot every year. Dave said, “The reason why I gravitated to the S3DA program is the fact that not only can we work with kids throughout their middle school and high school years, but we can give them an opportunity to use the equipment of their choice, which allows them to try different archery equipment and grow as individuals to see what works the best for them. I feel as though this organization provides so many resources for kids to get involved with archery, which will help them to gain confidence in themselves, build friendships, and understand wildlife conservation.”

Dave’s short-term goal is to get a good foundation for the Texas S3DA program. He wants to get coaches certified and then starting building teams in Central Texas and expand throughout the entire state. His long-term goal is to make the Texas S3DA program one of the top states in the overall organization, which could potentially lead to Texas S3DA hosting a national event. Dave added that, “I feel the best way to get our youth and adults to participate will be to introduce archery as a community event, something for everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability. Just getting everyone to come to the range for a variety of events will open the door for people to fall in love with the sport.”
