As the August/September issue of Personal Defense World went to press, the COVID-19 pandemic, which had held millions of law-abiding Americans hostage for months, had given way to rioting and violence over the murder of George Floyd by a rogue Minneapolis police officer. What began as righteous protests devolved into random violence. Unbelievably, many city leaders chose to turn a blind eye. They told officers to stand down even as some rioters were looting, burning police stations, cop cars and hard-earned city businesses, and assaulting police officers rather than make the tough political decision to enforce the rule of law. This left law-abiding citizens to fend for themselves like never before.
Now more than ever there is a greater sense of responsibility of oneself, loved ones and your property. That same sentiment drove us in putting together this issue. We featured buyer’s guides on the best subscription security plans, whole-house backup generators for when the grid goes down, the latest safes and storage devices, as well as a roundup of five of the best carry revolvers that won’t break the family budget. For those looking for something with a little more “handle” author Todd Burgreen explains why you should upgrade to the Springfield Armory Saint Victor 300 Blackout pistol. If you’re a tech-savvy homeowner looking to upgrade your castle-defense toolkit, Peter Suciu tells you why you should consider the possibility of using a drone to protect your homestead.
This year is really shaping up to be something else, but trust that PDW is here to help. This issue is all about gearing you up with the tools needed to protect you and yours and that includes some of the best tips and tactics for everyday protection at home or out and about. As our country starts opening up, we encourage you to please be careful, smart, responsible, and courteous to others. Prepare your body and mind to the best of your ability in order to protect yourself and your loved ones from the true dangers of 2020 and beyond. Stay safe.
